I was diagnosed last week with gestational diabetes. I went in for diabetic counseling today and got to poke my finger for the first time. YUCK! I have to do it first thing in the morning, before I eat and an hour after I eat. Can you say fun? Not! However I did learn that I can eat ice cream in moderation. It's not forbidden because the fat in it makes it metabolize slower. I asked about chocolate because that is what I'm missing the most. The nurse told me to take my blood sugar after I eat it and see what it is. If it's not too many points above then she said to exercise the next time I eat it and I'd be ok. I haven't tried yet but I can tell you that if I have to exercise to eat chocolate I might be doing a lot of exercising. : )

What a bummer! I hope you aren't too tempted this holiday season. Maybe it would be better if I had some very good reason not to eat so many treats. As it is, I usually eat too much.
