Cutler Ryan Wilkerson

I was supposed to have a c-section on Monday morning but our child had different plans. I went into labor at 4 am Sunday morning. I decided that I had some time before I needed to be at the hospital so I put in a load of laundry at 4:30 and then took a shower. By the time 6 rolled around I decided we needed to leave so I told Wes to get in the shower.

We got to the hospital at 6:45 am. Since it was Sunday morning and we weren't expected they had to call everyone in. The plan was to be in surgery by 8. I was only dilated to a 2 at 7:15, but my contractions were only about a minute apart and were lasting 2 1/2 to 3 minutes so I quickly progressed. My water broke around 7:45 and that sent everyone scrambling. They wanted me in surgery so I didn't have time to pause between contractions as I moved to the gurney.

In the OR the anesthesiologist gave me a spinal tap. My IV blew out when he flushed it so he had to stick in another. The operating room changed a little since I had Shalon. There is now a camera and tv. There was a 20 inch tv by my head so I could watch as they performed surgery. I did watch here and there. The anesthesiologist was really good. He explained what they did while I was watching. Wes videod with our camera.

I had such a large amount of amniotic fluid that even though my water broke and a lot gushed out when the Dr. cut into me it shot a couple feet in the air. We also found out when the Dr. cut me open that because I'd had so much fluid and Cutler had a shorter than average umbilical cord combined with the fact it was wrapped around his shoulder, tore the placenta when my water broke. If I hadn't had a c-section I could have easily bled out before they caught it.

Cutler was born at 8:51 am Sunday February 22nd. He was 6 lbs. 8 oz. and 19 inches long. Shalon absolutely loves him and wants to be wherever he is. We are healthy and happy. I got out of the hospital this afternoon. Cutler is at moderatley high risk for jaundice so we have to go to the Dr. tomorrow to get him checked.

Haircut and Cookies

Today I went and got a haircut! Yea! It has been a while. The primary president in our new ward cuts hair.

I made sugar cookie dough this morning to put in the freezer. However Shalon was grumpy when she woke up from her nap so we made up a few before putting it in the freezer. We also made hot pink frosting. She thought that was pretty cool especially because she got to lick the beater. Yum, yum!

Daddy Daughter pictures

Here are some pictures of Shalon and Wes. The first ones are of Shalon visiting Wes at work when he was here in town working at the courthouse on Feb. 6th. He's giving her rides on the dolly. The other ones are of this morning before Wes had to leave to go to school in Casper for the week. Ironically Shalon is wearing the same outfit for both pictures. Shalon's top says I'll always be Daddy's little girl.







Today I was feeling very ambitious. Jana inspired me (she makes fresh bread every week), so I decided I would give it a try. I made Wes' Grandma Walker's recipe. Yum! I made 2 loaves of bread and 3 dozen rolls. I put the rolls in the freezer so I can just pull them out later. I also made a batch of Chocolate Studded Dream Cookies. I made them into balls and froze them, so I can pull them out and bake them a few at a time. I will be all set when I can eat sweets again. Although I really have started to cheat a little. I know, I know I only have a week left so I should be really good. I also made Sloppy Joe filling to put in the freezer. Wes was telling me don't get too ambitious. He doesn't want me to go into labor because he has a 2 hour drive to get back. However, I am tired now. We'll see how long this nesting lasts...

On Schedule

Well at my weekly Dr. appt. everything is going according to schedule. My blood sugar is ok. Baby looks good. So unless I go into labor early which at this point I would almost go for except it makes recovery more difficult, we have 12 days to go. Now we just need to get everyone healthy. Shalon is sick yet again... So hopefully she'll be well by then. I'm considering keeping her out of nursery for a few weeks just because I don't want her to pick anything else up.

So tonight I put Shalon to bed. She cried for a minute or two and then I didn't hear anything. I was sitting in the living room in the corner and then I kinda got that feeling I was being watched. I stood up and there was Shalon by the closet with this grin on her face like haha look what I just got away with. So I took her back to bed and thus far she hasn't got back out but she's been voicing her opinion for the last half hour.

My projects

I have been sewing all I can lately. I have been able to check a bunch of projects off my list... Before Christmas I was able to finish a Sunbonnet Sue blanket for Wes' Aunt Charlotte's Granddaughter. I took pictures of it but they were on my camera when I lost it. I also made a matching outfit for an 18" doll for it. I only have pictures of the the sunbonnet and apron because I'd given the dress and bloomers to Aunt Charlotte with the blanket.

I'm also working on a jean blanket for Wes. I have all the blocks done I just need to put it together. However, I like to jump from one project to the next and then certain projects take priority. I was going to try to have it done for Christmas now I'm hoping it'll get done by his birthday in March.

I just finished matching dresses for Shalon and Sydney. They aren't quite identical I didn't have enough fabric to do them exactly the same. I had to be very creative when I was cutting them out. I wanted to get them finished so they could wear them in February. I should have made them a size bigger but I made them according to their measurements. They can wear them a little while at least.

I also just finished cross stitching the last block for a baby blanket that I've been working on since we got married. (I started it when we lived in Rawlins in a travel trailer and I didn't have anything to do) Now I need to put the blocks together and quilt it.

I'm halfway finished with a blessing outfit for the baby. It's turning out really cute. I have to get it done soon because we are blessing the baby when my parents come out so the baby will only be a few days old.

Shalon will probably be very happy when I get my sewing done. I regret to say that when I'm really trying hard to work on things I let her watch PBS. I swore I'd never let the tv be a babysitter but....

My day in a nutshell...

Wednesday is my Dr. day. Today we were there for about 1 1/2 hours. The ultrasound was fine (I have one every week). I'm on the high end of normal for amniotic fluid but that's typical with gestational diabetes. It's still a boy... I don't know why but every week it's almost like the Dr. goes out of his way and prints me out a picture of his boy parts... The estimated weight of this baby is currently 6 lbs. 8 oz. so I'm sure that he'll be bigger than Shalon. She was 7 lbs. 1 oz. The baby has put 1 1/2 lbs. on in the last 2 weeks. I still have 3 1/2 weeks to go...

After the ultrasound it was on to the "non stress test". This is a very active baby but today he wasn't feeling it as I was hooked up to the monitors, so after the first 15 min. (when I was supposed to be done) they decided I should drink some apple juice (talk about sweet when I don't really have sweets). That really got him moving. However then they were having a hard time with his heartbeat. So all in all I was hooked up for 45-60 minutes. Then they deteremined things were fine and I could go home.

Shalon was really pretty good considering she was running on not a lot of sleep. Last night she got up around 11 with a fever. I dosed her up on Tylenol and laid next to her in bed. I dozed on and off until 1:30 am and decided I wanted my own bed. I slept in my bed until 4 and then was up with Shalon again. I finally made it back to my bed about 6:15 am. After all of our running around today ( I had to get some errands done after my Dr. appt.) I brought Shalon home and put her to bed. When she woke up from her nap I took her temp. and it was 102. I decided to take her to the Dr. She's been sick with a cold for a week or so. They said to just keep treating it with Tylenol and hopefully it breaks soon. I think Shalon's had it with Dr.'s :)
